Two Teaching Positions at John J. Sark Memorial School Lennox Island First Nation – Education Two (2) term position available: One (1) Full-time Kindergarten Position One (1) Full-time Grade 5 and 6 Position Application

Each classroom teacher is the educational leader in the classroom and will ensure that the school’s program and curricula are implemented in a way that maximizes student-learning experiences. They plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Each teacher is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within his/her teaching assignment. Working collaboratively with a team of educational professionals, each teacher will demonstrate a strong commitment to the planning for improvement process in support of student achievement and reports directly to the school Principal.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelors of Education degree from an accredited institution

• Must have excellent classroom management, behavioral management and organizational skills

• Demonstrated willingness to work as part of a planning team • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing a wide range of academic, social, emotion, and behavioral needs of children • Strong background in teaching literacy and numeracy

• Relevant cultural experience • Knowledge of First Nation education development, socio-economic conditions, and culture of First Nation communities

• Willing to work collaboratively with staff, parents and administration

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills • A broad knowledge of child development and teaching methods

• Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners

• High level of attention to confidentiality
